Good morning everyone, It is another ridicululously cold day. Please see below for a message from PRPS regarding at home learning for today. Update: 6:25 AM - All Prairie Rose Schools are closed for February 11, 2021 Based on current weather data, a decision has been made to extend the cancellation of in-person classes at all Prairie Rose schools for Thursday, February 11th. As morning temperatures are below -40 with the wind chill, bus travel and walking to school becomes unsafe for students. Learning from home will continue for students in grades 1-12. Teachers have been asked to connect with their students regarding instruction and learning expectations. As the temperature is expected to remain cold this week, weather information will be reviewed daily and parents will be updated accordingly.

It is our hope that we will be back in classes tomorrow. Dear Parents and Guardians of MWS students, Based on current weather data for the next 24 hours indicating temperatures below -40 with the wind chill, a decision has been made to extend the cancellation of in-person classes at all Redcliff schools including IF Cox School, Margaret Wooding School and Parkside Junior High School for Wednesday, February 10th. Learning from home will continue tomorrow for students in grades 1-9. As with today, students will participate in Google Meets during the day tomorrow to continue their learning. Google Meets have been scheduled for all students to take place tomorrow from 9:00 - 10:00 am, and from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. These meets will focus on providing instruction, support and learning time for the students. As the temperature is expected to remain cold this week, weather information will be reviewed daily and parents will be updated accordingly.

Dear Parents and Guardians of MWS students, With the extreme cold weather that is upon us here in Southern Alberta, PRSD has made the decision to close all schools for Tuesday, February 9. This will mean that students and staff are to stay at home and not come into the school. In the past, a school closure due to cold weather meant that there would be no instruction taking place on that day. However, with the technology we now have available to us, we are able to continue to support the learning of students while they are at home. Through Google Meet, and digital learning tools, the students and staff of MWS will be able to continue to participate in learning activities tomorrow. Google Meets have been scheduled for all students to take place tomorrow from 9:00 - 10:00 am, and from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. These meets will focus on providing instruction, support and learning time for the students. Teachers and students have been informed of this development, and all are aware of the plans for instruction through Google meets tomorrow, and how to join. Please know that the decision to close a school for a day is always a hard one and is driven by the intent to keep everyone safe.

Important notice: Good afternoon everyone, It is a very, very windy day out there and with the highs winds, and flying debris we have restricted students from outdoor activities for the bulk of the day. Students who normally walk home are being asked to contact their parents about being picked up from school at the end of the day. We understand that this may cause an inconvenience for some, however it is an important precaution to protect the children from the flying debris and falling branches around town. It’s a great day to be back at school!

Good morning everyone and welcome to the new year. Today is the first day of classes for students as we return from the Christmas holiday. Although for this first week we will be doing at-home learning as per government instructions, it will still be important for all students to participate fully in the learning activities that their teachers provide. Prior to the holiday, teachers will have provided information home to allow students to connect for scheduled Google Meets, and students have been given meaningful work to complete during this time. Please help your child to be successful by encouraging them to show up for each Google Meet and complete all assigned work during this week of online learning. This will help to prepare them for a full return to classes on January 11. We are looking forward to seeing each of their smiling faces as we return to regular classes on January 11. Early dismissal Friday !! Just a reminder to all parents that there is early dismissal on Friday, December 18. Students in the 5B, 6B, 6H, and 6S classes will be dismissed from school at 1:50pm. Students in 4C, 4R, 4/5O, and 5M classes will be dismissed at 2:00pm. Busses will be at the school at this time to take bus students home. Merry Christmas everyone!

As we prepare to say farewell to our students for the Christmas holiday, we would like to thank all of the parents for their terrific support this year. We hope that you enjoy a restful and enjoyable holiday with your loved ones and we look forward to seeing the students back in the halls on January 11, 2021. Please remember that temporary online learning will take place from January 4-8. Teachers will provide information home to allow students to connect for Google Meets, and students will be given meaningful work to complete during this time. Thank you to everyone that contributed to finding presents for the Tree of Hope in our school library. These presents were picked up this morning and will certainly make people’s Christmases brighter. Special thank you to the staff at Red Hat Co-operative (Big Marble Farms) for contributing to our tree of hope. For several years, including this year, employees have saved, with the support from the company, to buy presents for others. We couldn’t do it without you.

The MWS students and staff created 223 Christmas cards for seniors in our area who are in homes. They will be distributed tonight. They have decorated our school to be cheery. They have dressed up in theme costumes all week and spread acts of kindness throughout the school. A giant thank you to our students and staff for making it feel like Christmas.

Happy December everyone. It is hard to believe, but we are down to the last few weeks before Christmas break.
